Age Spot Color

An age spot is a pigmented brown spot that appear on a person’s skin due to their overexposure to the sun. Though it is a skin condition that is associated with old age, the marks themselves are not called an age spot for that. Age spots are known that way because of the duration of time a person spends out in the sun. These spots are harmless but it hasn’t stopped people from searching for ways to get them removed. This is mainly because of the fact that they are physically unappealing and aging to the appearance. They sometimes cause harm to the sufferer because they affect their self confidence, some also worry that the marks are cancerous. This causes a lot of people to book appointments with their doctors to check out if they have a precancerous skin condition. This is a wise thing to do with any changes to the skin.

Age spot color can vary from person to person. In one person the blemishes may be dark brown while another’s may be pale. Additionally, there are some who have black spots. In as much as these spots are rarely cancerous, it is very important that any color change be noted and taken care of. Change in color of an age spot can be the symptom of an underlying disease or skin condition. For cancerous spots, the color change is the number one symptom. For this reason alone, it is very important that people know and keep track of their age spots. If at any given time, a color change is noted, then it should be reported to a doctor as soon as possible.

There are a lot of treatment options that are available to cure age spots but the best cure or prevention is to stay out of the sun for long periods of time. The sun is at its hottest from 9am to 3pm. If you can’t avoid going out into the sun, then you need to protect yourself as you do it. This can be done by wearing a hat and sunglasses. Most importantly apply sunscreen to aid in blocking the harmful UV rays.

Aside from just the color, there are a lot of other factors that a person can pay attention to when it comes to age spots. For instance, one may find that their spots change shape and become irregular. Add to that, the border of the clusters of age spots merge into one another. Some report itchiness and redness that accompany the spots. This means that the spots have become inflamed and this is not characteristic of a normal age spot.
