Keratosis And Its Danger Signs

Keratosis is basically the growth of keratin on the skin. The occurrence of this skin condition is usual for those who are always exposed to the sun. Other than that, there are also cases wherein the cause of keratosis is the use of tanning beds. There are three types of keratosis that specifically describe each condition: actinic & seborrheic keratosis, and keratosis pilaris.

Actinic keratosis is the most common type among the three. It is a precancerous condition which means leaving such condition untreated may eventuate as cancer. Candidates to this kind of issue are those who seemingly worship the sun by being exposed to it all of the time. Affected by this skin condition are the body parts that are usually exposed to the heat of the sun most of the time. The second type is called seborrheic keratosis which is described by a growth or a bump on the skin. The good news about seborrheic keratosis is that its bumps and growths do not automatically result to cancer. Lastly, hair follicles that are plugged result to the skin disorder known as keratosis pilaris. For you not to experience any complications, it is best to determine the symptoms apparent to your condition. If you do not approve with the idea of having severe skin damage or even cancer, do not treat keratosis as an ordinary problem that you can forget.

Being on the watch when it comes to your skin is more than a requirement. One danger sign of keratosis is the damage of the skin as characterized by areas that are crusted, outlined and scaly. Multiple patches can also be another sign especially for the parts of the body that are usually exposed to the sun. Having these patches may appear as normal dryness of the skin but it may also be a sign of keratosis.

The patches may be red, pink, brown or gray in color, and become thicker if left without any treatment Although you may not suffer from pain, the thickening of the patches is a danger sign of keratosis. Those who have this condition commonly have rough skin. Be alert when you check the feel of your skin; if it is reasonably not smooth, then there may be troubles associated to keratosis.

The application of sunscreen whenever you have to indulge with outdoor activities is the best thing to do since the cause of having keratosis is the overexposure to the sun. You can use creams or lotions in order to moisten your skin.

If you are having these skin spots, remember that these may lead to keratosis. Besides checking your skin in a regular fashion, consult your doctor whenever there is a need to attend your skin condition medically.
